Buying a college degree?? Legally??

So, I came across this web page recently http://is.gd/1EHC9 and it got me thinking......
Could you really BUY a degree online that's actually valid and legal too??
I researched this and also asked the company that's selling this product and this is what they had to say...

Q: Is this legal?

A: "We have partnered with Private Universities from the Philippines. All the schools we represent are legally allowed to award degrees at their discretion. Our service acts as a legal intermediary between you and the University. In this way, you convert what you already know into a powerful qualification."

I'm waiting for feedback on someone who has tried this, so if you have any experience, feel free to let me know. If you would like to try it for yourself, go here http://is.gd/1EHC9
and be sure to come back and let us know how it goes.

Keeping Up With Current Affairs While On Vacation

For globe trekkers, there is nothing like the news in their native language to make them feel at home again, particularly if they can find a current affairs channel that is from their own country. This is easier done in some areas than in others. For example, American news channels broadcast all over the planet, while a French station that is focused on local events might not be quite as global. To stay in touch with current affairs while traveling, here are a few ideas to keep you informed.

Current affairs differ from plain old news in that the news gives quick, brief bits of information, while current affairs are more focused on the hard facts of the news and what is going on today. Most news channels, like CNN and ABC have a special program devoted to this in depth analysis and choose the most urgent issues today to discuss on these shows. This is what many people feel really helps keep that connection with home, since the opinions shared are typical of the country in which you abide.

While being mobile it can really be tough to find a good current affairs channel on the television, especially when not in a more civilized country where your options are broader. One way to get around this is to find a drinking establishment or restaurant that offers a television or two. During the day, most hostelries are pretty depleted and since they usually have satellite or cable TV, you can request a specific channel that you want to watch. Sit down, have a cold one and a plate of food and they will probably be more than willing to let you watch your favorite home channel.

Another good solution if you have the finances is to check into a hotel or hostel that caters to business people. These places often host seminars and have people staying from around the world who are in need of information. By paying a bit more, you can have a suite with Internet connection and plenty of television channels to choose from. There is usually at least one US and one British current affairs channel that you will be able to access.

If TV is not a good idea for you, or you just can’t find one that shows your channel in your language, you can always stay informed of current affairs by logging onto your favorite station’s website. You can either read the interesting information, or view it streamed. This is probably the best way to go in terms of non-television options. You have the option to choose where you want to look and when, no trying to time your schedule to the news channel’s schedule, something that can be very difficult in another time zone!

If you need to stay current with the latest news, it is possible, no matter where in the world you are. You just need access to some basic technology and you will be fine!

Help for those who want to work from home

I would like to offer a bit of help to those who are interested in working from home or need to for personal reasons. It took me nearly six months of searching every day to find the permanent job I have now. In that time I found not only legitimate jobs with reputable companies, but also private contractor type jobs that don't pay as well or as often, but DO pay.

I have assembled two lists. The first list is of companies that I know for certain offer home positions (including the company I work for) and the second list is of websites that keep an up-to-date list of telecommute jobs available.

Companies-Most of these companies hire for customer service/sales jobs.

  1. 1-800-flowers.com-I have been working as a home agent for this company since last august. They will be hiring again in late summer/early fall.
  2. LiveOps
  3. Alpine Access
  4. Arise
  5. 24-7 In Touch-Canada
  6. Accu Conference
  7. Ansafone Communications
  8. Working Solutions
  9. Cloud 10 Corp
  10. Answer 1
  11. TeleTech
Next is a list of websites that I use on a regular basis to search for jobs for friends and family. These websites sometimes also list the private contractor jobs I mentioned earlier. These types of jobs require a great deal of research and testing before relying on them for any kind of income. NEVER accept an "opportunity" that asks you for any kind of payment up front, even if it's only $1. These are usually scams and will come back to haunt you later. I won't be listing any of the private contractor jobs in this post, but I may include them in my next one.

The bottom line is to be careful how you use these websites. I have found them to be great tools in looking for employment, but there are many ways to make an income from home and some are more appealing than others.

Websites

  1. MoneyMakingMommy
  2. WorkAtHomeSOS
  3. WorkingMom
  4. GetAFreelancer
  5. MisterSoft
I know this is a relatively small list, but that should tell you something about the legitimacy of most websites claiming to have home job listings-Most of them are scams.

Unfortunately a lot of the "work" involved in working from home is separating the good jobs from the bad ones. Be very careful when sending any personal information to a company unless you know for sure they are legit. Check BBB ratings and Google the company and search for reviews written by previous employees. Keep in mind that all companies have their disgruntled workers, but if you see a pattern in the complaints you'll know something isn't up to par.

Good luck!

Reasons NOT to work in tech support.

I'm sure everyone can think of tons of reasons NOT to go into tech support....I just wanted to highlight a few of the particularly BAD reasons for those considering going into this line of work.
While tech support positions are easier to obtain than some others and may seem appealing, they have many more negative aspects than positive.
  • LOW LOW LOW pay
  • The nagging feeling that you're easily replaced by someone in Bangladesh who will work for 10 cents an hour.
  • Negative work environment caused by managers who are clinging to their position for dear life. (They are just as easily replaced)
  • Horrible hours. You're expected to answer phones 10 hours a day, 6 days a week sometimes.
  • Even more horrible work environment. Some offices are better than others and working from home, if you have the option, is even more desirable. But for the most part, companies view tech support as some sort of horrible virus rather than a vital part of their business.

I know I'm just venting here and I HAVE worked in tech support and related fields for many years. But tell me if I'm leaving something out or if you think I'm wrong altogether.....
